ProfEC Ventus’ LATAM Territory Manager, Leonardo Barragán, recently joined industry experts at the IV AMA System Workshop, hosted by Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE), to explore how Brazil is leveraging one of the world’s largest centralised wind data systems.
The AMA system comprises 680 meteorological masts, with more than 278 providing over ten years of measurement data. This extensive dataset supports long-term wind energy planning and provides an important foundation for understanding Brazil’s wind resources.
One of the key takeaways from the workshop was that the value of the AMA system lies not only in its scale, but also in the consistency and rigor behind its operation. From sensor selection and calibration to installation and data validation, maintaining high and consistent standards throughout the measurement process is essential for ensuring reliable and comparable data.
This approach demonstrates the important role that high-quality measurement data plays in supporting informed energy planning and the reliable integration of wind energy into the power system. The workshop provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge and perspectives with experts working across Brazil’s wind energy sector and to gain further insight into the systems and practices supporting the country’s continued renewable energy development.
